Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Baby's weight as feeding guide

Any one follow the rule: feed your baby between 2.5 and 3 times their weight in ounces? My son is 15 lbs so I should feed 37.5oz?

On a typical day he only eats between 30-35oz of breastmilk & formula.

  • I don't really follow those guidelines. I feed on demand and if they haven't eaten in a while I feed then as well.

  • I don't follow those guidelines either. My son usually does end up eating the "right" amount but I don't stress about. He knows when he is hungry and when he isn't.

  • I was trying to follow those guidelines for a while especially when he was just born because he lost a pound the week he was born. But now he is perfectly healthy and going by those guidelines I felt like he was drinking too much and spitting up.

I was just told yesterday that he should be eating 32 oz max per day.  He is exactly 4 months old.
