Crazy Competitive Preschool - WWYD?

I would love some level headed advice on this since I can't seem to make a decision.

DH and I went and toured the perfect preschool for E this morning. Unfortunately, space is limited and there is a already waiting list even for the 2014 school year which is when she would start. We were invited to email the director and let her know about our interest in the school and why we think our family would be a good fit. Most of you know I'm an environmentalist and DH is a librarian. It's an eco-friendly campus with an ecology curriculum with an emphasis on early literacy. They also focus on diversity and E is biracial. So I feel pretty good about our chances.

My question is about timing. The director is going out of the country on vacation for a week starting Monday. When would you send this email? Is there any point in trying to be strategic here? I keep thinking that sending it today would be bad since she's probably not focusing on email these last few hours. But I also don't want it to be a part of the huge cache of emails she'll have to address when she gets back. I feel like she may not pay attention to 2014 applicants with so much else to do when she returns. But I also worry that if i wait a week or two we will seem like we're not as enthusiastic as the other parents. WWYD?

Also any tips on playing this game are greatly appreciated.

And for the record, yes, I realize that this is ridiculous. Thank you for not laughing at me!

  • I went through this process last year with my oldest and my advice is to call and keep calling (and email right away).  I really think it's the squeaky wheels that get the grease... in preschool situations at least.

  • I personally would send something handwritten after she gets back. I would probably even deliver it in person. Even if the director won't see you the staff and her assistant will remember you.
  • I learned to read super early and I went to a fancy preschool where I learned to speak French and I never even finished college so what I would actually do is not stress so much lol.
