What do you put on your baby's bum?

Hi mamas,

I'm curious what you use on your baby's bum, if anything, during regular diaper changes. The nurses used vaseline in the hospital and other mom friends swear by Aquaphor... are there any more natural/organic options that you like?

We use the Weleda bath/lotion products but I noticed they only have diaper rash cream, which I assume you don't use as a preventive but rather only when a rash is present?

Thanks for helping out this ignorant FTM :)

  • We only use products if there is a rash.  Otherwise, a dry, clean bottom is best!

  • I only use something if there's a rash present. Otherwise we let it air for a minute to make sure it's dry before rediapering. Our older two rarely had rashes, so that seemed to work well.

  • We have used vaseline on DS when he was having a reaction to the diapers he was wearing (well, at that point we were trying to find out if it was a reaction). That is it so far. We have Burt's Bees for minor rashes. We also have A&D for bad ones. That

  • I have to use a preventative cream with every change or my DD's rash comes back in a few days. Her doctor took a look and said she is really sensitive to the acid in her BM's. Wipes (even sensitive) irritate her too, so we just use wet cotton balls. The d
  • I only put something on if there is a rash. I do air dry after every change though to make sure they're dry before the diaper goes on. With DS1 any cream seems to work for him with DS2 we've had a rash for almost 3 weeks and I've tried Aquaphor, CA baby,

  • We are using Angle Baby Bottom Balm just about every change, mostly because E always seems to have just a touch of rash.  I can't tell if it is an actual rash to his being wet, or if it is a sensitivity to something else like my laundry detergen

  • Ignorant FTM here too, so who knows if what I'm doing is right. ;)  We CD and I air dry after wet dipes and use either Angel Baby Bottom Balm or CJ's BUTTer after poops.  Sometimes her anus and the area headed away from it up her back look a lit

  • I use Avalon Organics diaper cream when it's a little red. Nothing when I see no sign of rash. I got it on super-ultra-mega sale (no way could I afford it full price), and I'll probably switch to coconut oil when that runs out.

  • vaseline before bed (she sleeps 6-8 hrs). If she's red then I use the Arbonne ABC rash cream, which has worked fine. So far, we have been basically rash-free.

  • Coconut oil. I have never seen a rash on her bum but I use it usually after she poops. It goes on so smooth and her skin is so soft. Also use this as a moisturizer on her body; does a better job than any crap baby lotion we have.
