I was wondering what sort of questions to ask a homebirth midwife when interviewing them. I had a lovely natural birth in a hospital the first time, and my midwife there was wonderful, but I've always wanted to do a homebirth. I know things are a bit different with homebirths, so I was wondering if the questions you ask are different.
Also, are there any specific things we could talk about with a homebirth midwife that might help ease some of my husband's fears? He's on board for it the next time around, but he's still pretty nervous about it, and I'd like him to be a little more relaxed.
Re: homebirth questions
Ask about their transfer to hospital rates and if they are able to come with you into the hospital. It is different in every state but a midwife that has hospital rights is less likely to take chances at home when a red, or even yellow, flag pops
Here is a good list of questions to ask. I basically put these into a questionnaire when I interviewed midwives for our first home birth.
