This is a question I had with my last baby and I'm curious what the general consensus is. If someone gives you a gift in person (not for a shower, holiday, or birthday) and you are able to thank them in person, do you still do a thank you card? I always do if a gift is sent to me and I don't see the giver face to face, but what about in this case? Is sending a card after thanking them in person redundant or thoughtful?

I think for a major event, like a shower, the answer is yes. A thank you card is still in order. But if someone hands you a gift in a one-on-one situation, I don't think you're obligated. I never had, until my husband encouraged me to

when I was growing up, I had birthday parties. I would be told to thank everyone in person after I finished opening gifts. then, my Mom still had me write cards.
So I think yes, it would be a good idea
