Argument with DH over DS waking up during night . .

honest thoughts appreciated. .

So DS has been a bit congested with a runny/stuffy nose. The past 2-3 nights he woke up at about midnight because of it. After a few minutes of trying to console him he is still crying, half way asleep. DH decides to take the easy way out and ask him if he wants to watch TV. TV at midnight for a 2 year old who is clearly just tired/uncomfortable due to congestion. Now of course I try to change the subject and get him back to sleep. But he heard daddy say TV and of course he is crying for that now.

Am I wrong to tell DH that he should not have done that and is taking the easy way out? Then of course he is irritated with me and takes DS downstairs to watch TV. I was livid. Am I wrong here ? ?

  • I don't know if I can tell you if your right or wrong. Something you and DH need to dsicuss though and decide as a team how you'll handle it in the future. No going back on that one night, but you need to decide if this will become routine. I personally a

  • I don't know that either are wrong. You have one way and he has one way. I prefer to not have the TV on constantly, but MH does. I'm glad Lucas plays and barely pays attention to it, but we both have our own ways of doing things. Normally when Lucas is si

  • Thanks. I should say that DS was in our bed laying down although still crying before TV was brought up. I just don't think it was necessary. I know I need to talk to DH about it I just needed to vent.
  • Yeah, TV in the middle of the night is not something that would fly in my house with my 2-year old. I have no problem letting DS watching as much TV as he wants during the day when he is sick. I would be irritated as well.

    We would have just l

  • It's not neccesarily wrong but doesnt seem to solve the issue. I also think its setting you all up for a pattern in the future. Your son may think "Im up, maybe if I fuss enough-dad will come in and I can watch TV". Personally, when my son is sick in that

  • In our house he'd be wrong. Watching TV in the middle of the night does nothing to solve the sickness issue.

We were sick in this house all last month, get a vaporizer and prop the bed or the kid up if you can to keep it all moving down. A

  • Yea... TV in the middle of the night with a toddler? That's pretty much the recipe for no sleep.

He'd be straight up wrong in my house!

  • I see this completely from the other side- it's obviously not something that happens often if at all, DS was in your bed but not sleeping anyways, and DH was probably woken up as well with DS crying and uncomfortable. Yes, it's an easy way to calm him

Yes it was planned, yes we know what causes that, no we are not on public assistance, and yes we will be getting cable after this. ;)

  • Nope. I wouldn't have it. I'd be saying - now you can get up with him in the future when he's crying for tv in the middle of the night.

There was one night a couple months back where my 2 year old kept waking. As in - she was up at least 7 times

  • I had a similar experience when DH was out of the country for two months the beginning of this year, while I was in my first trimester.  DS had some separation issues with daddy being gone and started waking up alot and not sleeping or letting me

Actually this is not the first time it has happened and actually my son happens to be a daddy's boy anyway.

  • Ug, I feel for you. DD has the stomach bug and we've been up for two nights with her puking and just generally feeling crappy.

We don't do TV in the middle of the night, mostly because that would just wake her up more. But we have also decided no

  • Meh, I think DH did the same thing with DS when I was working one night and DS was hysterical and sick. It's not a habit, just something to calm him and although I probably wouldn't have done it that way, certainly not something to fight over...it worked

  • I personally wouldn't agree with DH doing this, for the same reason we have the TV off for a time before SS goes to bed. TV stimulates little people's minds, and will probably keep them awake longer, rather than letting them settle and get back to sleep
