Babies: 3 - 6 Months

please help, baby wont stay asleep!

I'm in he-l-l. Baby hasn't slept more than a 45 min stretch tonight, its almost 5 am.

She is about 13 weeks old and used to do maybe one 4 hour stretch and at least 2.5 - 3 hour stretches for the rest of the night (about 8 pm - 9 am)

She no longer will really breast feed as of 2.5 weeks ago. Sometimes she would during the night so I have been pumping and giving bottles.

The sleep seems to be deteriorating and now I am at my breaking point.  This has happened off and on since she was born, but now it seems to be the norm.

Here's what I've tried over the past few nights:
-unswaddling (she was squirming all over her crib anyway). Right now she is back in her swaddle.
-formula (heard it is slower to digest than BM)
-increasing oz during the day (no help with sleeping, only increased spit up and I think I over-fed)
-white noise
-swing
-pacifier

-rock n play

She falls asleep pretty well/easily but will be awake in 30-45 mins screaming her head off.

I have been respecting her nap times and we don't do anything pretty much until after her morning nap that ends around 11. Usually we don't even go for a walk or anything until after her next nap that ends around 1.

I'm going back to work in 2 weeks and I can't do this. help.

  • My parents tell me that one of the only ways I'd fall asleep was to be driven around in the car. You obviously can't do that all night, but it's something you can try for a little if you're having trouble getting her to sleep.

  • First off big hugs to you! One of our lowest points was driving around in the car and then bringing DS in and keeping him in his carseat and turning on the dryer and DH and I sleeping on the laundry room floor! So I feel your pain. I would sugges looking
  • Overfeeding doesn't help STTN, that's a myth, up there with formula over bf and rice cereal, sounds like you already figured that out though. She could be going through a phase like PP suggested. Did she just master a new skill? When DD started rolling sh

  • First thing I thought of was reflux as well. DS will wake himself up like this when his is flaring up bad. Try gripe water, works wonders!!

  • Have you talked to pedi about reflux? It's sounds like V when he first started. It got progressively worse. Once he was on meds he was so much better. Might be something to look into?
