Are you giving DCP xmas gifts?

My dd's just started daycare last month... I don't really know all of the techers, but obviously their main ones. They only attend 3 days/wee and we'll miss the xmas party. Who/when do we give gifts to? How much do we spend? I am at a loss. My DH doesn't think we should be giving them gifts at all, but I am not sure. But I don't know where to draw the line, either, since there are so many workers that help out.

  • My boys are at at in home day care so there is the owner and her two assistants.  I got the assistants $40 gift cards to Target.  I am still undecided on the owner.  I am thinking about $75 or $100 for her.  I will also include a note with each card telling them how much DH and I appreciate what they do.  Honestly, I feel like the women who care for my boys should get more than my friends, co-workers and even most family members.  I cut back on other gifts so I could do this for the DCP's.  They have a dificult job and are so great to my boys.

Do whatever you are comfortable with.  In your case you could give gifts to the ones who have the most contact with your child and send cookies or something along for everyone else.  As for when to give the gifts my boys won't be at day care the week of Christmas so I will give the gifts the Friday before.

  • We were only in daycare for a short while when it was teacher appreciation day.  I didn't feel like I should be giving them gifts since we had only been there a short while.  So I baked some cookies and brought them in.  I figured at least there was a jesture.

For the last several months we only go once, maybe twice, a week.  He has 3 teachers, but at the end of the day teachers from the other rooms will come play with MS if they have no more kids in their own room.  So I got each of the 3 teachers a $50 AmEx GC.  I also put together a basket of chocolates w/ Lindt (choc-filled) ornaments and a mug.  I am also going to make some Christmas cookies.  All the teachers can nejoy that.

  • For DD's teachers, we are getting GCs to Target and Starbucks of about $20 max as she wasn't in the classes for very long.  I would definitely do something but as they just started, it can be small like homemade goods, a $5 GC to Starbucks or something like that.  I gave the teachers in DD's infant class an appreciation gift when she was promoted.  Which I'm hoping pays off when #2 is in there.  I would give gifts to the main teachers and floaters -- those who regularly and routinely help out with your DDs.  If your place is like ours, I can't keep track of the afternoon help so don't know if they will get anything because I'm not sure who all there is.  Instead I might bring in a box of donuts for the front office and teachers or something like that.

  • DS switched classes on Dec 1 so the teachers from the old class are getting $25 GC to Target (head teacher $40) and the teachers from the new class are getting $15 GC to Dunkin Donuts.

My husband hates the idea of gifts too because we already pay so much, but I know it means a lot to the teachers to get something, they aren't paid that well, and they are taking such great care of my son, so to me, it's worth a little bit extra.
