We had our baby boy at 10:33 this morning! He is 8 lb 6 oz and 20.5 inches long. Hoping the pic below might work!
It was basically the worst and best day of my life all in one. I went in last night to be induced with Cervadil, which happened at about 6 pm. As soon as I tried to sleep at 10, I started having contractions. They quickly got very uncomfortable, but I wasn't dilated enough for an epidural yet so I had some sort of shot for the pain. It wore off quickly and then it was unbearable! Had an epidural around 3 am, and it worked well for a while, then it wore off the right side partly for some reason. Luckily the cervical checks got much more bearable and I was ready to go about 5 am, but we waited for my doctor till 6:30. He broke my water.
That is when things got hard! I pushed with the help of a nurse, a nursing student, and DH for three hours, but the epidural made it too hard to tell what was a good push. They turned it down and then I had such incredible pressure way down low. I knew the baby was stuck and wasn't moving! It took me the third hour to convince everyone else though.
My doctor tried vacuuming while I pushed, but baby wasn't going anywhere. Then his heart rate was decelerating, so they quickly wheeled me down to the OR for an emergency c section. DH couldn't come because it was a class one emergency.
There were about 20 people in the OR, which kinda freaked me out that they were all needed for me and baby. Luckily the anesthetist was a sweet grandpa like man who kept me calm. Leif was born maybe 20 minutes in, and he cried right away! The nurses took him so I could only barely see what they were doing. Then he got brought up to the nursery and DH got to spend time with him. I really wanted to see DH's face when he saw and held our baby for the first time, so I am a little sad about that.
I got stitched up and brought to recovery, where they brought Leif to nurse. I was on a dozen meds by then so I was so out of it! They let DH come too which is against their rules, so that was nice.
I found out later in the day that Leif was face up and stuck. He was too big to fit through my pelvis. Just wish I could have saved myself that last hour of agony by convincing them sooner!
So basically, it was a scary, emotional day, but now DH is cuddling Leif and it was all worth it!
Ps. Anderson is his MN as it was my maiden name.
Re: Leif Anderson is here! The birth story, too.
We can't wait to meet our Blake Katherine!!
