VBAC

Would like to try but hesitant...

Had a c-section with our first. I was actively pushing for two hours and he would come down and go back up after each contraction. The nurse said with how hard I was pushing he should have been flying out. We decided on a c-section. I carried around a LOT of guilt for the next few months and still do. Everything went fine with the c section, it just wasn't what I had envisioned. Recovery time was super sucky and I hated that part. I'm about to enter the second trimester and have already talked with my dr. About the possibility of a vbac. She talked about the risks, said they do vbac s often. But she did question whether I could push this baby out when I couldn't push out my 7pound baby. Sigh. I totally understand what she is saying. She also said that recovery time from a planned c section is much easier. I know it's ultimately up to me and my husband what we feel most comfortable with, but I'm so up in the air about it at this point. Anyone else struggle with this?

  • I know I am trying for a VBAC, but I also have the same concerns you do. I keep thinking, well, if I schedule the c-section, then the recovery will be easier. I have heard, however, the recovery can be easier the second time regardless of whether you try

  • Just my two cents. I've had cs then a vbac. And during pregnancy 2 learned a lot about fetal positioning. Having a baby in an odd position can make make it much more difficult to push out than a better positioned one, regardless of size.

  • I pushed for 4+ hours with my first son, with little to no progress. He was 8 lb, 4 oz, and was OP (sunny-side up), so positioning had a lot to do with his not coming out. My VBAC baby was significantly larger, and was positioned correctly and came out

  • I work in L&D and I can tell you that a lot of the reason why women can't push babies out is because of the position the baby is in. It has nothing to do with how big they are, especially if your last baby was 7 lbs. With my 1st I was induced due t

  • I couldn't push out my 7lb 10oz DD, but did push out my 7lb 15oz DS. The Vbac recovery has been nothing compared to the c/s recovery. It was extremely important to me to try to have DS vaginally, and I was successful. Btw I got the same talk fom my OB and
  • fwiw, I pushed for three hours with my 7 pound baby with no progress, and had a super fast two hour labour from first contraction to birth with my 8 pound vbac baby.
