Stay at Home Moms

Does your mom work?

I always see people posting about how their mom/mil watches their kids both here and on the WM board.

Do you plan to work after your kids move out?

Re: Does your mom work?

  • My mom works, so she can only watch DD on weekends and in the evenings. My MIL was a SAHM with her kids and never went back to work, so she's always available to watch DD.

  • My mom works and always has. But she works for herself out of her home so when I truly need a daytime sitter she schedules around helping me (this was invaluable when I was on bedrest). MIL was home until her youngest was in HS, then took a job 3 days

  • Both my mother and MIL work, and my mother ha told me point blank that even if she didn't work, there is no way she would sign up for full time childcare for DS- once or twice a week maybe, but no more. So it's unusual to me, too.

    I have no idea

My mom worked on and off, but stopped completely after I was born and hasn't worked since.  She will be 80 this year though.  She was 45 when I was born.

  • I'll add that even if they didn't work neither my mom nor MIL would be interested in watching our kids regularly, whether it's every day or even once a week for a whole day.

  • My mom works, but was a SAHM until my brother and I were in elementary school.

I know she wishes she could retire and watch DS, but she needs to put in a few more years before that happens. Also, she thinks it would make me go back to work,

My mom would never volunteer to watch the boys FT while I worked, although I'd be willing to bet my MIL would do it at least 3 days
