Benadryl as a sleep aid

So my 6 yr old DD (with ADHD) has always had a terrible time getting to sleep.  It usually takes her about two hours from "bedtime" to sleep.

We tried Melatonin, and it did nothing.  Her doctor prescribed Clonodine, but it gave her nightmares.  Then he prescribed Rispordal, but the side-effects were too scary for me so we never tried it.

Last week I gave her Benadryl for a rash and, OMG, she was asleep in 20 minutes.  It was heaven.  We did it again last night and again she went easily to sleep.

Does anyone know if it is harmful to give it nightly?

Risperdal for ADHD? Is this person a psychiatrist? A dev pedi? Or just a PCP? Is your child taking a stimulant medic

I am so sorry for you. I can totally empathize. I also was considering using it as a sleep aid out of desperation and then realized that even though it may be nice it causes long term damage. I was a pharmaceutical rep and Benadryl can not be used nightly
