Oatmeal

I went back to work last week and I am pumping 2-3 times a day at work.  At first, I was really frustrated with how little I was pumping, usually about 3 oz total per 20 minute session which wasn't enough to fill all of my son's bottles for daycare each day so I was supplementing with one bottle of formula which I wasn't happy about.

I read about oatmeal increasing milk supply and it was worked like a charm!  I just eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast each morning and I made a batch of oatmeal cookies that I've been snacking on and now I'm getting 5+ oz total when I pump.

Just wanted to pass on the tip because it really works!

Re: Oatmeal

  • What kind of oatmeal are you eating? I've heard it has to be steel cut oats..is that true? How do you prepare it?

  • I'm just eating regular Quaker Oatmeal.  I do 1/2 cup oat, 1 cup water in the microwave for 2 1/2 minutes.

  • Yup!  I've been eating instant oatmeal with about 1/2 tsp. of brewer's yeast sprinkled on top, and it has given me a great supply.  I also got this recipe for lactation cookies off of the internet and I believe they've been very helpful too - co
