Shower Questions (obviously)

I trolled a bit to see if the answer was here, but not that much so if I'm asking something that's been over just point me in the right directions.

Ok I know the rule, you don't throw your own shower. I'm not pregnant. I'm just wondering how "involved" are you suppose to be?

One of my besties begged to snag the spot to host (she did my bachelorette party) and basically she said we will pick a date down the road, ask any of my other close friends she is not close if they want to help set up or participate to work with her,

You get agree on the date the hostess selects (I provided a list of acceptable dates spanning a 2 month time frame and was told which date the shower would be).

You provide a guest list based on the number of people the hostess tells you.<

In my experience with hosting a shower, the mother provides the gift bags (if she wants the guests to have one), approves the guest list and provides the addresses and registry.
