Ear Piercing Question

Sometimes I wish there was a manual on how to parent. I want to do the right thing but sometimes I don't know what that right thing is.

Anyway, DS wants to get his ears pierced, he's 17. Personally, I think teenage boys with their ears pierced look like punks.

Just looking for some outside opinions. I know this isn't a huge deal obviously but for some reason, this is really weighing on me. I'm crazy.

Re: Ear Piercing Question

  • Personally I'd let him do it. He's 17 and its not permanent so I feel like there's little harm. I'm not really a fan of boys getting their ears pierced but eh.

  • yeah - I'd yield on this one.

I'd rather have an honest 17 yo who does some harmless but dumb stuff w/ your consent and knowledge rather than a sneaky 17/18 yo who does dangerous dumb stuff behind your back where there is nothing you can d

  • My first reaction was no, don't let him, but then I read the PPs responses and especially Kathryn's...I really agree with. At least he's asking permission. I'd just remind him that as he gets older, they will look ridiculous and potential employers wil

  • My brother pierced his ear at 17 without asking for permission. I remember the day he came home with it. My parents were upset, but it didn't last long, because he has sensitive skin (like I do) and within a few weeks it was gone.

  • I'd like to add that if it was a tattoo he wanted, I'd say no, you can wait one more year until you're 18. Just because tattoos are permanent, where as piercings aren't. Of course he could still make a decision at age 18 that he'd later regret, but nothin

  • I'm usually a lurker, but I had to comment - is he wanting just a regular ole ear piercing or the stretched out larger type piercing? If it's the latter, I would steer him away from that - that doesn't close up like a regular piercing would.

  • Let me give you my two cents....first I am not necessarily a huge fan of earrings on guys either. Some guys can pull it off, but its not going to seriously damage him or anything. He can always take the earrings out later in life and it will be pretty

  • I used to want my second hole done...my mom told me she wouldn't take me but I was welcome to do whatever I wanted when i was able to go on my own (18).  I did and hated it and let them close up.  When he's 18 maybe he would change his mind?&nbs
