Co-worker & Cancer - WWYD

Ok, I don't want to come off insensitive.  Please know my heart goes out to her and her family.  Co-worker sits across from me has breast cancer & had her breast removed and replaced.

Testing now shows that it has spread to her bones.  Sad, her boys are 7 & 8 years old.  There is not really anything they can do for bone cancer.  It is my understanding it is a death sentance.  But, she is returning to work part-time on Monday and has to be on treatment for the rest of her life.  Chemo & or radiation.  I called the OB yesterday cause I wasn't sure if it is true or not that they put off gamas or something.  Thought maybe it was like an old wives tale.

The nurses line said that depending on her treatment it could effect my pregnancy but I'd have to talk to my co-worker and see how they are treating her.  How do you go about doing that?   Not really a conversation I want to have.  Anyways, I asked managment if maybe they could just move my desk.  Again, sensitive subject and my heart goes out to her but I feel bad for doing it.

My supervisor hasn't gotten back to me yet on what they plan on doing.   WWYD?  Is there really any truth to her treatment effecting me and baby?

Dh thinks they should just move my desk, better safe than sorry.

Thanks Ladies!

  • Eekkk! What a terrible situation. I saw cancer in te subject and instantly got a lump in my throat! When I read her kids were 7 and 8 another lump then to think of your baby and an environmental teratogen affecting you both have me yet another lump! <br

  • Becca Can I ask how long your Mom went with treatment? Someone here told me that 20% of people make it like 5 years.

  • That is so sad. Generally with breast cancer they treat with external radiation which wouldn't affect you. The implanted radioactive seeds could affect you but I don't believe they are used for breast/bone cancer. I had to stop seeing a patient during my
