XP - cimetidine and reflux

Hey ladies! I posted last night asking if you guys thought my sons symptoms sounded like reflux. I got him in today and the Dr prescribed a low dose of cimetidine (Tagame). she said this is the starting point for meds to try to correct the reflux. I gave him his first dose and so far he seems ok, but we havent tried to lay him down yet which is when his spitting up/gagging/gasping starts.she also said to start giving him a bottle of breastmilk with rice cereal at night try and help and it is ok to put him to bed on his belly if his crib is at a good incline, firm, with no objects/blankets and so on in it. I questioned the SIDS risk and she said since he is spitting up and choking on his back it would be better if it came out to the side on his stomach and would be less likely to choke that way. So I will give this a shot as well.

I was just wondering if any other reflux mamas have had luck with cimetidine for your LO?

  • My dd is on ranitidine for acid reflux but ranitidine and cimetidine function the same way, and are pretty much the same, just a different name. She has been on it for four weeks and has done really well on it.
  • Because of our insurance, he was put on cimetidine rather than ranitidine. From what I gather, cimetidine is used in infants with very minor reflux as the starting point before going up to Zantac (ranitidine). So far, DS has done great with it! Not sure i
