Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Would you switch pediatricians?

DS is almost 6 months old. He is now in one of his phases of teething (he has been teething since he was 2.5 months old), but this one has been by far the worst one yet. He is drooling way more than he ever has, and he has been crying non stop, even with Tylenol.

Onto to the pediatrician question...I have called his pediatrician about 5 times to ask a few questions, and to get a medicine for a yeast infection DS had (it took him forever to call the prescription over to the pharmacy, and he told us to call him if it wasn't in by X time. It wasn't in by then, so we called him, and we got a voice message. We eventually got the medicine, but it was the next day).

Out of those 5 times of calling, I talked to a nurse once. Every other time I have always had the answering machine pick up. He has his own office, so there isn't another pedi. I hate leaving messages because they usually don't get returned the same day, and I'd like an answer to my question within an hour, if not right away.

The only reason I have this pedi is because he was the one on call when I gave birth to DS. There is a group of several pediatricians at our medical center. I thought that the one we have was part of it. I haven't been super happy with our current pediatrician.

Would you switch pediatricians? How do you leave a pediatrician to go to another one so close by? I mean, it's obvious we would leave because I didn't really like our current one, so is there any way to do it politely? I'm 99% sure I'm going to switch, but do I need to tell our current one that I don't like him? Or what? How would I get DS's past records sent to our new pediatrician?

TIA

Re: Would you switch pediatricians?

  • Honestly, I just don't schedule another appt if I don't like the pedi I saw. It sucks because doctors are very busy, so it's typical to not hear from them for a long period of time, especially if he is the only pedi in his office. You have to remember the

Well, I think expecting an answer to your questions within an hour is unreasonable unless it is an emergency.

  • I would switch if you aren't happy.  My DS is on to his 4th pedi.  We switched the first time before his 1 month visit.  The first pedi had prescribed him zantac and the dose was way too high.  I knew I could never really trust him

  • Try coconut oil for the yeast infection. We treated LO with prescription topical, but it came back. Coconut oil is natural and we had no more problems. It sounds like you are not happy with the Dr, so that is the reason to switch. For me, it is reasona

  • If a matter is truly urgent, I would expect a call back within an hour, if not sooner.

If not urgent, which I'd guess is 95% of the time, expecting call-backs within an hour doesn't seem reasonable to me. However, I do expect a call back that sam

  • I understand your frustration as I have similar issues with our ped - I have called four times to go over x-ray results and am put on hold all the time. And it took five calls to even get the x-ray appointment. I saw switch - I am also doing the same. If
  • Do not worry about offending your pediatrician. I am sure he will be pleased to see you go.

Your new pediatrician can request your child's records from the old one, and if you have the new one do the request, they probably won't char
