Q: rice cereal vs. oatmeal cereal

I just tried introducing solids to my DD last week. She's only had breastmilk this entire time. She's 6 months old (4 months adjusted). She didn't seem interested the first couple days. I tried feeding it to her a couples times a day. It's made her constipated and she hasn't pooped in 3 days.

Here's my question: is there a difference between rice cereal and oatmeal cereal? I introduced oatmeal cereal first instead of rice cereal. Can this be a reason why she doesn't like it or is constipated? Starting solids is harder than I thought. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Q: rice cereal vs. oatmeal cereal

  • Oatmeal is a little harder to digest, but not tons. Solids are very different and take a little for them to get used to. Don't panic. It gets easier. We had the same problem with ds. We introduced pears to solve it. They are very high in fiber and solved

  • Try going right to fruits or vegetables. There is no need for cereal.

  • I agree with ginger. Try some veggies! L didn't take to oatmeal or avocado, but has loved almost everything else. I keep trying any foods she didn't seem to like every few days until she either loves it or refuses to open her mouth for it.</p
