Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Baby Whisperer

DD just turned 4 months and she's not sleeping (started a week ago). I know this could be the 4 month wakeful period but I feel like we need to get on a schedule/routine; especially for naps. She still cat naps all day and at night has been sleeping terrible, even when we co sleep she grunts/moans/tosses all.night.long.

So I decided to start following the baby whisperer, especially to get her on a nap schedule. It's only day 2 and I want to give up so hopefully you ladies give me insight. I'll admit, I'm still reading through the whole book but I think I got the concept.

She's super easy to lay down for naps but wakes at exactly 30 min. The first day I went in at 30 minutes and tried to just be there and rub her stomach when she woke up. Bad idea...as soon as she woke and saw me she was all cooing and smiling and didn't want to go back to sleep. So after a few naps like that I decided I'd just wait until she cried and tried the PU/PD routine. But it honestly takes over an hour to get her back to sleep and she then only sleeps for another 10 min. Do I just need to keep going at it. I realize it's only been a day or two of this but I feel bad. Especially when she wakes so happy and I just leave her in there until she's mad!

I hope this makes sense...I'm so sleep deprived I can't even think straight anymore! She used to be such a good sleeper, I'm not used to this!

Re: Baby Whisperer

  • My LO sleeps the same as yours. 30 minute naps on the dot, waking every two hours at night etc. I've just started to accept that he naps crappy and sleeps crappy. I'm staying consistent in my routines with him and have come to realize he will sleep longer

  • We have been going through the same thing! But as long as our LO's stay healthy I keep telling myself that this too will pass and I will miss the middle of the night cuddle sessions.

  • Our little girl grunted all the time and seemed fussy a lot so we switched her formula to Gentlease (couldn't BF anymore due to medication I needed). The grunting completely stopped after a day or two on that formula and she started sleeping much better -

  • SO many people have this problem at this age (just search TB for "short naps"). And who has the time to try putting their LO back to sleep for an hour, several times a day? I wouldn't even ask my nanny to do that, much less would I do it myself. Seems
