Trouble TTC

IF and your job

Hey all - wanted some advice on what to do.  I thought when we started TTC this time last year I would have a LO by now.  Fast forward and now we are contemplating IVF. RE says we could start as early as May

My job - I hate it and I really want to start looking for a new one.  The downside is my current contract states I need to give 3 months notice before I actually leave. I just started looking for new positions and sending my info out but wouldn't estimate starting a new job until late summer/early august....  and I may or may not have been successful with IVF by then.

I know I'm not supposed to let TTC impact my job/career/the rest of me but I know that future employers always want to know about my status (even though they're not supposed to ask)....and what about me being the newly hired employee who needs to go on maternity leave 6 m after I start...?

Do I ...

1-  proceed with actively TTC with IVF and stick with this current awful job or

2- do IVF anyway AND start looking for a new job even though I may (or really mat not) be pregnant by the time I start  or

3- put TTC on hold. again (we had put it on hold when i first started my current job: i wanted to be employed for a year before i popped out a LO)

Just wanted to see if others are in similar positions.  All this stress!

I personally would stay at current job and not put TTC on hold. I've missed out on other job opportunities these past 2 yrs we've been TTC because I like our insurance and it's frowned upon to start a new job and then be pregnant right away. Most employer

I'd go with option 2. I don't see any harm in looking for a new job. If you end up with an offer, then you can sit down and really hash things through. Maybe at that point, you'd decide to keep the job you have, but at least you'd have options. I definite

  • Most jobs make you wait 1 full year before you can use FMLA for maternity leave.

I changed jobs almost 1 year ago and we were a bit concerned if I got pg during those first 3 months of the job. Obviously, unfounded worry but still, wasn't really

  • Have you factored in how much the stress of being in a job you hate takes a toll on you emotionally & physically? Despite the potential pitfalls, it may not be prudent to put the brakes on IVF or job hunting just because you *might* have to make a toug
  • I would go with #2. Nothing in life is promised. You might get a job offer next week that is irresistable or you might not. You might get PG next month or you might not.

  • Thank you for all the input.

In terms of FMLA I am in NJ and according to state law and my contract with my current job I would be covered because I have been employed for over a year at current position. I currently work as a hospital medicine d

  • Honestly, coming from the end of covering for numerous ladies while on maternity leave the last few years, I would still go with 2. Wear a baggy shirt to cover the bump at the interview or whatever you need to do. If your coworkers can't understand, proba

  • If a great job comes up and you really want to take it, make sure you have a backup plan for maternity leave, just in case you get a BFP those first few months.

I went ahead and got a new job because our
