Trouble TTC

Insulin Resistant and Glumetza--anyone else have these problems?

Kind of a long story...but I promise there's a question at the end. I'm just tired of rehashing this with my mother who just tells to me to keep praying.

We've been TTC for 9 months now (not long, I know..but I'm 36 and peri-menopausal). I had endo surgery in September, where the RE found I also had a septum in my uterus, which he corrected. I have no other "structural" issues, as the doc says.

I didn't ovulate even once after surgery, and saw the RE again in December. Full on endocrine work up and I'm DXed with insulin resistance and almost zero testosterone (which I figured...I've been peri-menopausal for 6 years) and put on 1-1000 mg/day Glumetza. One month later, my fasting insulin levels are better, but not perfect, so let's bump to 1500 mg and I'll test again in a month.

In that month, I have such intense pregnancy symptoms, even the doctor is surprised to discover I'm not pregnant, even a little bit. So..given provera to force AF (because I'm now a month late). AF visits, and I finally get a fasting insulin test done after 2 months on the new dose. My insulin levels are worse than they were before I started taking Glumetza. I've also put on 12 pounds in the 2 months I've been on this dose. I'm also on CD 18...and no sign of ovulation.

Anyone else having problems like this since starting Glumetza? I'm only on it and not plain old metformin because I already have IBS issues, and didn't need to be on a drug that would amp those up. I've had my last blood work back for a week, but the doctor's office hasn't called me yet (because the woman who does the phone calls has been out sick...and apparently no one picks up the slack in that office). I'm already having THIS dose screw with my cycle....I really don't want to up the dosage and start all over with this.

 TIA.

  • I've been on 2000 mg of glumetza for 10 years.  I have found that when my life gets super stressful (e.g., when my husband had to have varicocele surgery, or when I had to have my left fallopian tube surgically removed), I gain weight and my insulin

  • I was just started on Glumetza after battleing with Metformin for a couple of years, i had the same issues with Met, i was ALWAYS in the bathroom...and for someone who flies on an airplane, a really old one with no real toliet that just wasnt working.  So they just switched me to Glumetza, im on 1000mg/day.  I also had very high fasting blood sugar before they put me on and my testorterone was also on the high end.  I havent had a check up yet but i dont really feel like its helping me lose weight like she said it would.  I also just took out my Nuva Ring and havent started my first period yet (14 days late), i also used the over the counter ovulation tests and each one has been negative.  Ive also been having a ton of early pregnancy symptoms, more tired than usual, boobs are tender, cramping, and at times just an uneasy feeling, but all my pregnancy test have been negative so far.  I am in the military and have to go through the flight doc for most of this and one thing she did ask was if my endocrin had plans to bump me up to 1500-2000mg/day.  Kinda a bummer to hear its not really working well for you, we are tyring to concieve so im really hoping the glumetza helps.
