Parenting after a Loss

Starting Food?

First I would like to apologize for being MIA. Ever since I started back at work it has been hard for me to bump. I do think about you Ladies all the time. I can't believe that Jackson is already 4 months old. He is strictly BF and I originally said he would start food around 6 months, and I don't know what made me start thinking about it now. I gave him rice last night ( literally a spoon full) and he seemed to enjoy it. I wanted to see how he would take the food off a spoon but now I feel I was premature to give it to him. I plan on giving him BM for at least a year, but I don't know when I should start making him food. I plan on making everything and not buying anything. If you waited til 6 months did your LO take longer to enjoy food? What were the first things you tried?

We waited until just before 6 months. That's actually the new recommendation. This article was just released.

  • We waited until right around 6m bc of the AAP recommendations.  We started with sweet potatoes and she loved them.  Pretty much liked every new food we tried with her.

  • I waited until he was a week shy of 6 months.  I started with rice or oatmeal mixed with breast milk, and after gradually thickening the mixture for a week we started offering some fruits and veggies with the cereal.

  • I think we started with rice cereal at just over 4m.  Then we moved to oatmeal.  Our pediatrician follows the AAP recommendations, which is fine with basic, simple foods starting then.  I always fed him BM first and then tried a food (mi
