Question about bigger babies (long)

AStar86AStar86 member

First, I'll start by saying I am not pregnant, yet.

I had a c-section in November of 2010.  I was almost 2 weeks past my due date and was induced. For some reason, my doctor broke my water about an hour after I arrived at the hospital. I was only at a 2 and 14 hours later, I still hadn't progressed. Looking back, I wouldn't have let her break my water so soon, but that's over and done with.  Before starting the procedure, she felt around and estimated my DS to be about 7 pounds. She was SO off. He was 10 pounds, 9 ounces. My experience was horrible, I had way too much of whatever medicines they were giving me and I threw up several times and was in and out of consciousness for about 12 hours.  I don't even remember holding him for the first time.  I get so upset looking at pictures from immediately after the birth because all of our familes are smiling and holding him and I'm just laying in the background asleep.  I'm told that I tried to nurse, but I don't remember it.  Needless to say, I will do anything I can to avoid that experience the next time.  I've been reading a lot about how the size of the baby doesn't matter, but I would love to hear anyone's experience with a VBAC and a large baby.  I'm hoping that my next one isn't bigger, like everyone says it will (by the way, I did not have GD, gained 25 pounds and both my husband and I were 7-8 pound babies, so I have no idea why he was so big!)

Also, if you were in my situation, would you attempt a homebirth? I'm really interested in it, but a tad nervous. My DH is 100% for a homebirth.

  • I'm sorry you had such a negative birth experience. I would definitely recommend seeing a therapist to work through your birth trauma. It helped me a lot as I prepared for my vbac.

I didn't have a big first baby but my 2nd (my vbac baby) was 9 lb

  • My VBAC baby was 10 lb, 10 oz. He was also really long, and I had him at round 41 or 41.5 weeks. I didn't have any sizing ultrasounds with him.

My first son was OP and I pushed for 4 hours with him before having a c/s. He was a little over 8

  • And your first birth sounds tough! Looking at the first photo of me with DS1 still makes me sad. Not good memories with his birth, either.

  • Real Food for Mother and Baby by Nina Planck is a great read about pregnancy and diet. And eating a low carb or even paleo diet during pg is a good plan. Turn that milk craving into a yogurt or cheese one!

But seriously, there's only so much
