Parenting after a Loss

Who is breast feeding??

Hey Ladies,

Sorry if this is a repeat question. My son will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and we have been strickly breast feeding since his birth. No supplementing and no bottles. He will have to take a bottle when I go back to work and he goes to his little daycare so I have started pumping and freezing my milk.

What are some good ways to increase me supply? So far  I have started pumping a couple times a day since he is still feeding but I know I should probably do more?? How many times are you pumping and feeding?

  • Congrats on your LO. I'm sure others will chime in with ideas. One thing to help set the stage is a question: how long are you home before LO goes to day care? At only 2 weeks, I'd be careful with pumping as you're still in the process of getting your su

  • Congrats again on your LO.

Just my opinion, but you don't need to increase your supply. I went back PT when he was 10 weeks and will go back FT in another couple of weeks. I started pumping when he was about 4 weeks because I wanted to build a st

  • Thanks for the advice ladies,

I am taking 6 weeks so I will be returning to work at the end of April. Right now I am pumping once in the morning and then again before bed. LO has been feeding pretty regular around the clock about every 4 hours so

  • I agree with everyone. You typically don't want to pump in addition to feeding in the very beginning because you could end up with an oversupply problem which is really annoying.

Once you do start pumping, realize that you don't need too muc

  • I'm sure others will say the same thing, but for now, unless you're returning to work really soon, you can put away the pump. Once your supply is more established (around 6 weeks) you can start pumping a couple of times a day. If your LO is latching and f

  • I went back to work at 9 weeks and started pumping for a freezer stash at 5 weeks. DD was still nursing every 2 hours at that point, so it was a real pain for me to nurse her and then pump after words. I never had time to do anything else! I started nursi

  • Congrats on breastfeeding, those first few weeks are by far the hardest.  I agree with PPs, hold off on the pump until 4 weeks.  What I did was at that point I pumped an hour after LO fed for the first two morning feedings.  I felt like

  • I'm a perfect example of pumping too much and freezing too much milk.  During the early weeks, DD was sleeping long stretches at night (even waking her up to nurse didn't work) so I had severe milk overproduction and had to pump occ

  • pump after each feed. If he goes more than 3 hours between a meal, pump a bit.

Keep in mind you only need a big enough stash for about 2 days' worth. You'll be pumping at work and giving him that milk, so really you only need enough for one day,

  • I was pumping every 3 hours, I was terrified of running out to milk, Jackson was early and started with a bottle since he was having troubles sucking. I do both now. I am blessed with a huge surplus now over 1200 oz but I also made pumping a job. I did it
