At my 12wk u/s my cervix measured 5.1cm. I had an unexpected u/s yesterday due to some GI stuff (they just wanted to make sure it wasn't affecting my uterus). The doc I saw (not my regular doc) walked in during the exam and the tech was telling her all the numbers, including that my cervix was measuring 3.5cm. A flag went off in my mind at the time but I assumed that I was just misremembering my length from last time and didn't speak up.
At home I saw that my length 10 days ago was indeed 5.1. I waited for the results from yesterday's u/s to upload to the pt portal (they're usually immediate) but they never did. I called and spoke to the OB coordinator today who said that she cannot see the results up on the internet either and she's not sure why but she can ask one of the techs tomorrow to log in to the system because "she has no access to it." WHAT? The tech punches the numbers in the system is they're doing it and it does right to the doc! She also said that ACOG says measuring cervical length before 16 weeks is filled with errors and its hard to get a good measurement. I said that is comforting but dropping 1.6cm in 10 days is not. I asked if they would remeasure at 16 weeks then, and she said "Sure, if you're still concerned about it." I asked "Isn't a drop from 5.1 to 3.5 in 10 days a concern" and she said "Yes but I can't see that it was really 3.5 yesterday because I can't see the results."
I feel so dismissed and powerless. I don't want to be a crazy overreactor, but I've def. heard of ppl getting cervical measurements and even cerclages before 16w. If it's so unreliable, why would they even do it? Thoughts/advice? Should I find an MFM or am I overreacting?
Re: Cervical length - concerned and need advice
My doc has told me all along as long as your cervix is over 3-3.5 you are TOTALLY fine. No need for you to worry yourself! You are doing great so far, just keep it up! Try and rest as much as possible and put those feet up whenever
3.5 is still a good number and I've been told that the measurements aren't exact. But an MFM is never a bad idea for a multiples pregnancy. I would push for them to measure at your 16 week appointment - which they said they would do - and g
You guys are so sweet and supportive. I really appreciate your kind words. It's good to know that 3.5 is still a good measurement. Do you know if the drop means anything? As in, I wonder if 5.1 -> 3.5 in 10 days suggests further droppage of if it ca
