Baby Showers

Baby Shower for 2nd baby?

Hello The Bump Community. I have a silly question.  Do most people have a baby shower when they are expecting their second child?  My son is 7 years old so it has been awhile, but I was just wondering if its common to have a shower for a second birth.

Any input or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!!!

Re: Baby Shower for 2nd baby?

  • No, most people do not have a second shower.

If someone offers, you may choose to accept it but it should be a very small, intimate gathering, no registry.  The guest list should be limited to your nearest and dearest, maybe just your mom/

  • Generally they are frowned upon. However, if someone offers to throw one for you you can accept, but, as pp suggested, I would keep it small.

  • I think the 2nd shower question depends on the circumstances and there is no real answer.  Like in my case I am pregnant with my second daughter, but they will be 10 years apart and the second one is with my husband, therefore my husband family is th
  • If someone offers to throw one why not? There is a fairly big age gap between the two kids so i'm sure your family is excited to break out baby stuff again. My best friend had her kids 4yrs apart and they happened to be both boys so she didn't need a lot
  • I've thrown a few "sprinkles" for people having their second+ baby. It was smaller and more a chance for celebrating. Some people bought small gifts on their own (clothes and such).

  • I personally am not a fan of second plus baby showers. IMO a baby shower is to welcome a new mother to motherhood.
  • I think it also depends on your region or community.  Since your son is 7, I can see how friends and family might wish to throw you a shower and I think it would be nice for you to get some new baby items if you need them.

  • I really it varies by region, community, even your friends & family... It isn't uncommon where I am to have multiple showers, if it's a defferent sex or if it's been a few years.  I'm having a shower / sprinkle for my 2nd, a boy, after ha
