10 month old with Gas Pains at night

My Lo is 10 months and about once a week wakes up crying (screaming) and I can tell his stomach hurts and he has gas. He poops usually 3 times a day so I know its not constipation but he arches his back and is grunting real loud and up every hour or so screaming in pain. He is on soy formula as he had a dairy sensitivity when he was younger and just recently we have been trying very small amounts of dairy here and there. He was up all night last night and I keep trying to think what causes it. He had purees for dinner (same ones he always eats-avocados and sweet potatoes) and a few pea sized bites of bread and cheese after. Do you think just 2-3 bites of cheese would cause that? I am stumped and really want him to have dairy, but it seems to either be bread or daiary that causes this. Also, when he has gas I try the drops, bicycling his legs, etc. and nothing seems to help. Any suggestions? I feel so bad he screams all night and want nothing more for this to end, but also he such a picky eater I don' t know what to eliminate.

If dairy is a new thing and you thought he may have a sensitivity to it, then I would just hold off a little longer. Dd's ped gastro said they most likely grow out of it by 12-18 months and for me to start introducing in small amounts during or afte

Thanks. I am going to try to remove dairy and see if it helps. I tried yogurt a few times and he doesn't care for it and spits up a lot after it. It just seems crazy that the tiny bite of cheese would cause that. I guess I will find out soon.

About this time, as they ate more solids, both my girls went through a "gut transition"...where their stools changed from soft to harder, more solid poo. It helps to have probiotics(a non-dairy kind?) to help get some good bacteria in there
