Extended BF and eating

DS2 is about 15 months. His eating goes up and down and he loves pasta but not much else. I don't know if its because he nurses so much. He nurses on demand 10/12 times a day. He only has 6 teeth too.

Any thoughts suggestions on how to increase his intake? Should I put pasta sauce on everything to get him to eat more? I would like to stop nursing at 18 months. But I'm worried he won't eat well when I stop.

  • My guess would be that he's not eating much because he's not hungry. I would try to decrease some nursing sessions now so that he will eat more. If you want to be done nursing in 3 months, I would definitely start cutting down now.

  • My Dd didn't start chowing down until she got her molars, around 17/18 months.

To cut down, I would offer her food when she asked to nurse. I would also offer her frequent meals/snacks so she never really got very hungry. She's a pretty goo

  • We couldn't BF, but DS wasn't eating much at around a year when most babies are chowing down and naturally lowering their milk intake.  Since he wasn't doing it I had to "help him" by lowering his milk intake and spreading out his feedings.  In

Thanks for the suggestions! I was able to distract him more and waited longer between meals. He did seem to eat food better today!

  • Does he drink whole milk too? My guess is that your LO isn't eating too much solids because of the BM. My friend breast feed her kids until well after the age two and by 18 months they were down to morning/night only. Before that it was morning, home from
