XP: High alpha fetoprotein

Hi ladies, I'm not sure if this is a high-risk board question but I thought I'd ask. My alpha fetoprotein came back high (not sure of number) but I know this puts me at higher risk for spina bifida and other problems. I have to wait until the anatomy scan to know for sure. I read online that 25-50 in 1000 tests come back abnormal, and of those the rate for actually having something wrong is 1 in 16 to 1 in 33. So I guess the odds are still in my favor but I'm very nervous. Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience and what happened. Thanks!
Dx: High FSH, stage IV endo, homozygous C677T MTHFR and PAI-1
Early loss 10/08
Lap 1/09
IVF #1 "natural IVF" - 1 egg retrieved, missed m/c
Tried several mini-stim cycles with no response
Switched clinics - dx'd as carrier for Fragile X
IVF #2 MDL protocol Jan/Feb converted to IUI, BFN
IVF #2 take 2: Antagonist, one embie, BFN
IVF #3: Antagonist, no fertilization
One last ditch effort at OE IVF (antagonist with Clomid) cancelled
DE cycle #1 Jan/Feb 2011, BFP, ectopic
DE cycle #2 June/July 2011 - BFP
10/28/11 Baby girl lost at 17 weeks due to pre-term labor. We love and miss you.
DE cycle #3 June/July 2012 - BFP, twins, both heartbeats stopped, D&C
2 frosties but don't know what's next
FET Dec 2012: BFP! Praying this one sticks for the long haul!

    Why were they checking your aFP? I had mine checked because we were concerned about placenta problems. My understanding is the same as yours. It can mean something or absolutely nothing. GL to you.

    Was it the AFP in an amnio? Mine came back high 4.07, anything over 2 is high. I freaked at first, BUT read that there is a good chance that anything below 4.9 there are high chance of false positives and that many doctors prefer a very detailed scan w

    No, we have been going in weekly to keep an eye on that (as well as the fluid). They measure the hematoma, and it has stayed the same since 20 weeks (I am 29 now). They also measure the cord flow to make sure that the placenta is flowing properly and that
