Job interview while pregnant.

Hello Working Moms,

I have been battling with this question in my head for a while now.  I am 5 months pregnant and I have a stable job.  However, there is a transfer opportunity that is closer to my home that I am considering.  I filled out for the transfer and have a interview this Thursday.  The department is looking to fill the position ASAP because they really need the help.

I have heard different things about interviewing while pregnant. Should I disclose my pregnancy or not say anything? A part of me feels like if I dont say anything and then get the position my boss may feel like I deceived him/her and on the other hand its really none of their business and I dont HAVE to disclose it.

 Your thoughts?

 Thanks

  • I would wait until you have an offer on the table, but disclose before accepting it, and go into the conversation prepared to discuss when you plan to go out on leave and when you plan to return.

  • I am pretty sure it's standard NOT to disclose your pregnancy, even if you are showing.  I know it's different for everyone, but I was pretty obviously pregnant at 5 months.  It shouldn't have anything to do with your ability to work.

  • You're talking about a job within the company you work for now?  The good news is that if that's the case, you aren't impacting your leave.  But if you're talking about a job outside the company there are a couple things you need to keep in mind

  • Yes, its a transfer opportunity with the same County.  The department however is different. Maternity Leave is the same within the County so my job is secure.  The thing Im concerned about now is that will disclosing it before hand disco

  • I would be honest and disclose that you are pregnant.  I know it's not something you have to disclose but you don't want to start out a new position without being honest.  If you wait until you get an offer to disclose, they can still pull th

  • I understand the delima, but I think if you are not honest from the start that could hurt you more in the long run than disclosing and not getting the position.  Since it's with the same company I would absolutely be honest at the start.  Who kn

  • Don't disclose during the interview. If you get an offer, then disclose before accepting. It is not a matter of being dishonest. Not one person has suggested not disclosing before you start. You just don't want to put them in an awkward position where

  • Honestly I think it depends on the how the interview goes in the moment.  I interviewed while pregnant because I was out of work completely and needed a job.  I felt that my interview was going really well and I had a good rapport with the inter
