Chocolate Allergy, Maybe?

I forgot to ask the pedi about this when we were there but for the boys first birthday(I know it was prolly a bad idea but,) we gave them chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. And every place it touched their skin the broke out BAD! and were somewhat cranky for the next hour or two? I don't plan on giving it to them again, for a while anyway, but not sure if it's an allergy or their sensitive skin?

Re: Chocolate Allergy, Maybe?

  • Have they had cow's milk or other dairy yet? I'd suspect it was something in the cake/frosting. DD1 is allergic to dairy, soy, and eggs. If dairy or eggs touch her skin, she gets hives there. I would mention it to the pedi and ask for a blood RAST test. T

  • It's possible, but more likely the milk since it's a more common allergen.  I'd suggest bloodwork with pedi/allergist.
