Another name question if you have a moment - TIA!

We are team green but are seriously leaning towards Elliotte if LO is a girl.  I am admittedly nervous that it will get a poor reception given the traditional boy connotation but my husband suggested it a few months back and it has kind of stuck with us.  Anyway, I was hoping to get a little input on the spelling of the name if you have a moment to weigh in - thanks so much!  MN will likely be Elizabeth and LN is similar to Jones.  Open to other suggestions for a MN too...

A) Elliotte Elizabeth Jones

B) Elliot Elizabeth Jones

C) Really dislike Elliot/Elliotte for a girl so spelling doesn't matter

  • Maybe because I know two Elliots that are girls, it doesn't sound bad to me at all. Either spelling you prefer. I think it's cute.
  • I guess I'm in the minority, but I don't mind Elliotte for a girl.

  • It's NMS but I would go with Elliotte.  I know a man named Jan who was put in a girl's dorm in college because they thought he was female based on the name.

  • Sooo, I'm a SCRUBS fan... and therefore have to go with B.

Dr. Elliot Reid made me totally that name for a girl!

And, since I dated a guy named Christy and have a close (female) friend named Davis, I'm all for gender-bender names.  I

    A. I think it will eliminate some of the gender confusion when her name is read [i.e. on a resume, class roll, letters and emails, etc.]

ETA: As far as concerns that the spelling will be butchered by others, I think it would be no different

  • A - Personally I love boy names on girls. Our girl name is also a boy name. I don't care what anyone else thinks. I look at it this way, there are way worse names out there that you could be using! It's your kid, name it what you LOVE!

  • C - sorry.

But as for the spelling- I think Elliotte will be pronounced "ellie-oh-et" or "ellie-ought". So traditional spelling is always better.
