Saturday morning J got me up at 6:30. While he was eating breakfast, I checked FB on my phone. My cousin and 2 aunts posted something about my grandma being in the hospital and thank God another cousin was there, etc. I live 2 hours from any of my family, so I start thinking the worst.
I figure i'll wait a few hours to call my parents since it was so early. At 8, I try to call my dad and get no answer. My sister calls a few minutes later to tell me that grandma had a massive heart attack. She lives in a duplex, and my cousin lives upstairs, so luckily he was there for her. She coded twice, once at home and once in the ER.
Obviously, i'm upset about my grandma, but I really didn't want to read about it on FB first. My aunts have since posted that grandma will not get the angiogram due to poor kidney functions. I've talked to my mom, so she is keeping me updated, but I read everything on FB first. I'm going up there Saturday, and I can't guarantee that I won't say something to my aunts, not in front of grandma. Everything doesn't need to be put out there, but it's just common courtesy to make sure the family gets a call about these things before posting it.

I can understand being upset about the lack of personal-ness of FB, but I do think the lines are blurry these days about what is ok for FB and what's the best way to get the word out to people quickly.
