So last night I was checking my facebook one last time before I went to sleep. One of my cousins, posted a picture of her 6 week old daughter sleeping in her crib and how happy she was that she finally got her to sleep in there.
My jaw dropped when I saw it. Not only was she using bumpers (I'd side-eye but wouldn't have said anything) but there was a big, fluffy blanket in the crib and a big, standard sized pillow under her daughters head.
It looked like a trifecta for SIDS.
I laid there in bed for about 20 minutes debating on wether or not to say something and finally I had to. This is what I said:
She is adorable but ( and I know I'm going to sound preachy and I don't mean too) anything in the crib (pillow, blanket, stuffed animals, even bumpers) are a huge danger for SIDS. Just an FYI.
She commented back with:
I have been told that but it's the only way she will sleep. I check on her ALOT trust me lol.

And now for my rant (that I thought but didn't post):
Ok, so you know it's not safe but your willing to risk your childs life for it? And you check on her a lot so it makes it ok? A child can suffocate in just a few minutes!!!!!!
I haven't responded yet because this was going on at midnight and I just couldn't formulate a better response than my rant above. I'm still just shaking my head.
So do I just leave it alone? Or can anyone come up with something for me to respond with. On the one hand I feel like I should just leave it alone; I've said my piece, I've tried to educate her and I know how it feels when someone disagrees with your parenting decisions (I bed-share and my Mom is very vocal about being against it). On the other hand she's putting her child in danger.
So what say you BMB? Say something again or leave it alone?

I say leave it. You spoke up, she acknowledged it. Maybe enough pressure from others will get to her reconsider her ways, but for now I'd say just leave it.

I seriously can't believe she lets a 6 week old sleep on a pillow. That's moronic.
I dunno, I think saying something maybe via text or giving her a call is a good idea but d

I say leave it alone. You said what most people would, and in a very calm/tame way. At this point, it is up to her if she really understands the dangers of SIDS to make a change.
In the end - her baby, her decision. However, if you feel as

I would call, text, or send her a private facebook message. If something happened to that baby (God forbid) I know I would never forgive myself for not trying harder to get it across to her. A pillow under her head?! I can't even begin to fathom.
