Diaper Rash Ointment issue

Have you ever had a diaper rash ointment "burn" your LO? Ian was a little red, he's had 3 pretty nasty poops today which always makes him red. So, before I put his bedtime diaper on him, I dosed him up really good with ointment. He started screaming bloody murder. I take his diaper back off, get it all wiped off and he's more red than when we started! I let him lay there for a minute naked then put some different stuff on him and a new diaper and he was fine! It's stuff I've used before and the 2nd dose of stuff I put on him was pretty much the same thing, different brand. What I put on him the first time, there was only a little left in the tube, so I just threw the rest away. Would it being the last little bit, and having sat there for a while, have anything to do with it?

  • I got a sample of ointment in the mail and after I put it on DS I accudentally got some near by eye and it stung. I looked in the label and it had menthol in it. I know menthol is in there because it is suppose to have a cooling effect, but I opted to wip

Is it desitin?  I think the cod liver oil will burn if the rash is bad.

for a poop rash try maalox with triple paste and some clotrimazole cream.

  • I had that happen when I tried to use the Mustela diaper cream. She started screaming within minutes of putting it on. I wiped it off and put our regular stuff on and she was happy as could be.

  • It was a "store" version of Desitin cream/paste.  And what I ended up using after was essentially the same thing.  I just thought it was extremely odd, especially since I've used it before.  I'm not sure what the issue was but I won't be us

  • Here it all depends on what the rash looks like - flat and red, bumpy and red, open looking skin that's tranlucent and chafed....the maalox is a great trick I had totally forgotten about!

With DS, when I was unsure what to use and one se

  • We've dealt with the major, raw, bleeding stuff before and I use a whole combination for that kind of problem.  This was just red, no bumps, no bleeding, irritated because he'd had 3 really ripe poops...pretty sure he's teething again and this is wha

  • Yikes- no!

We use Burts Bee's a lot and have some non-petroleum jelly that I sometimes apply on top of ointment if she needs extra coverage. I also love/love/love triple paste. I've never had any of those things burn.
