Baby Showers

Do I have to apologize on behalf of my guests?

My shower is this evening and my host told me, she had only one RSVP, but since she knew who my guests were. verbally asked them and few are coming without RSVPing one way or another. Even her own sister did not RSVP to her!!

Do I have to apologize on behalf of my guests? I got really frustrated and understand her frustration, too. Because before she got verbal congirmation from my guests that she knew, she thought the shower maybe only my mom, and one guest!

  • I wouldn't apologize on behalf of your guests.  You could let your host know you're sorry she got put into the predicament of people not returning RSVPs and you really appreciate all her efforts planning the shower and tracking down the RSVPs.

  • People are really bad about RSVPing.  You don't need to do anything.  Thank her for following up with them and express your appreciation for her hosting.

  • No, you should never apologize on behalf of any adult.

    Enjoy your shower!

  • Most people don't RSVP anymore, and while it's a PITA it's not the end of the world. Don't apologize on behalf of adults. Enjoy your shower.

  • It's not your fault these people can't be bothered to observe etiquette or be considerate of the host's planning needs. Sucks for the host, but you've done nothing wrong. It's not like you are guilty by association.

  • Unless you got with each person and specifically asked them not to RSVP then it seems awkward that you'd apologize on their behalf. It just doesn't make sense unless for some reason you're suddenly responsible for the actions of all of your friends.
