Hi all,
Does this sound okay?
My
daughter is 16 months old, and before last week, really had very few
words (said dadada for almost everything). Then, last week, she started
saying about 5 or 6 words! It was great. Even yesterday, she said a 2
word phrase for the first time. Good stuff.
What concerns me
(and has for about 6 months since she started babbling) is that she
sounds VERY nasal. She has ear tubes, and is checked by the ENT every
month or 6 weeks. What I assimilate her to is someone who is hearing
impaired. It sounds like she can't hear the words she is saying,
because they aren't very clipped, just more sounding like she is
underwater, almost. I don't know if that makes sense, but it is the
best I can do. She gets her hearing checked at the ENT (which, I don't
know how much they can actually check at this age, as it took a while
for my son at this age to respond to their hearing checks) but her ears
aren't blocked anymore.
Could this be due to not having the
tubes till 10 months? Or, maybe something else going on with ENT that
they aren't picking up? The best way I can explain it is when someone
is hearing impaired, then can hear their voice (such as with a cochlear
implant) and the words still are foreign. I know that doesn't make much
sense, but it is the best description I can give.
