Breathing funny while sleeping?

I was just wondering if anyone else is, as my husband calls it 'breathing funny' when they sleep.  Apparently I am keeping him up at night with my breathing. At first he said I was snoring, then he said it is more of a weird sound when I am taking in a breath, then I stop breathing for a moment and then start up again. I don't usually snore or 'breath funny' so I am wondering if this is a pregnancy symptom?  Is there a name for it or am I just odd?

  • Could be sleep apnea. As you gain weight and more pressure on your lungs from baby it can cause periods of delayed or stopped breathing at night. You might try the breath right strips on your nose.

  • Could be sleep apnea, which is something you should talk to your OB about. Not sure if it is common to crop up in pregnancy, though I wouldn't be surprised.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks!  I will mention this to my midwife and try some of those strips :0)

  • Yes this happens! Your blood vessels in your nose become swollen and so you may snore at night or feel congested during the day. I have this and have had to wear breathe right strips at night. They are not cute! But at least hubby and I both get bette
  • It happens. Your body is growing and trying to retain more fluids, as a result you may start ''snoring'' and whatnot.
"What are you having?" "Well the radiologist says its a healthy little human baby. I'm a little disappointed, because I really wanted a puppy." LOL
  • I would definitely talk to your dr about it - as PPs suggested it could be sleep apnea.  Sleep apnea can pop up during pregnancy (in women who have not had it previously).  If its possible that that is what it is then you definitely want to g

  • I have it too! My husband joked I was darth vader. I read any mucous membrane in your body can be swollen liken your nose. So it makes it difficult to breathe. I was told to try saline nose spray.
  • I wear Breathe Right Strips every night and not only does it help with my allergies, but it eliminates the snoring that I only seem to do when I am pregnant.

  • I second the breathe-right strips, and also I've found that a humidifier really helps keep me from getting congested at night. If that's happening to you, the combination might work well.
