Attend a shower without a gift?

Is this common? I've seen it happen before. I would think if you aren't going to give a gift, you don't go to the shower, right?

  • I wouldn't attend without a gift either. Perhaps the person to show up without a gift has already given it/the gift was ordered and hasn't arrived yet? Still, if either of those two options were the case, I'd show up with a little something. <span

I hadn't heard she was going to have a shower, so I bought her a whole bunch of stuff. She was having a boy, so I bought clothes, blank

  • If you aren't going to give a gift at all, you don't go to the shower.

As PP's mentioned though, sometimes there are circumstances in which it may look like someone didn't bring something, but that's not the case

  • I went to a shower of my sister's and didn't bring a gift.  However it was the third shower I attended for her, and had given her gifts at the other 2.

  • There were a couple of people at my shower who did not bring a gift, just nice cards with sweet well wishes.  I really did not care.  It was fun to get together with my friends and socialize with everyone.  I don't know everyone's financial
  • I always thought that the reason for showers was to help get the parent ready for baby by bringing something that she needs. It's not like it's a birthday party or a damn mixer! I'd be offended if someone showed up to my shower and didn't get me a

  • I personally would not go without a gift. Two people showed up to my shower without gifts: my SIL because she gave it to me the week before thinking she wouldn't be able to get the time off to come down for the shower....and my MIL, because she lives righ
