1st grader with her tongue pierced

I know you girls will appreciate this priceless gem...

So I forgot something at school today and went back to get it after I picked up DD from the sitter.  While I was there I ran into the principal.  She started talking to DD and was noticing how alert she was and I said yeah, she's going to be my little wild child.  So then she goes into this story about how one of our 1st grade girls had her tongue pierced.  And her mom did it... with an EARRING!  So the little girl has not been at school for 5 days now, so she's assuming there is an infection.  Disgusting.

And she said that she's seen a few nose piercings before, but never a tongue.  A FEW nose piercings?  And our school only goes up to 3rd grade. WTF is wrong with these moms?

  • Some people should be required to take a class before having kids....its ridiculous!

  • wtf is wrong w/ people?

piercing your 5 yr olds tongue? should be considered mutilation...

  • Surely, you jest?!?!?!
  • nose piercings are common in certain cultures but tongue piercings?....WOW!
  • Ok, I have 5 piercings and 3 tattoos, but DD will get neither until she is 18. I have a problem with ear piercings on babies because they can't ask for it or want it, but this shiit is just stupid.
  • wow, just wow.

  • That shiit should be hotlined.  I don't know what the offense would be, but seriously.....

  • I associate tongue piercings with sexuality. There's no reason for a girl that young to have a tongue piercing.

Me too, which is why I try not to talk about my tongue piercing around my parents.?

My older cousin got hers pierced when she was 19 and I was 12 and I wanted one so desperately because she was so cool. LOL. I was not wanting it for sexual purposes. However, soon after I got my tongue pierced at 18 I had a, uh, sort of wild-ish phase. heh.

  • i'm pretty sure this falls under the category of child abuse. if that principal is not telling a tall tale, she should lose her job for not reporting this.

i've had a tongue piercing and that shiit hurts. the act of piercing hurt and the healing process hurt.cripes, i want to cry everytime i bite my tongue and get one of those nubbies.?

i love body art and when dd turns 18, she can tattoo and pierce anything and everything if she wants (though i hope she holds of a while on tattoos). but ?even then i surely wont be taking her to the parlor or doing it for her.?

Pretty sure she did report it.  We pretty much have CPS on speed dial at our school.  It would be very very unlike her to NOT report - you CAN lose your jobs in a school if you don't report any harm done to a child.  I've called many a time.  :(

  • Although I would never pierce my child's tongue, and I think it is a horribly tacky and tasteless thing to do to a child.

But I also think that if you are going to categorize this type of piercing as mutilation and CPS-worthy, you must also consider ear piercing.  Both could be equally painful and difficult to heal.  DIfferent types of people have different traditions and standards for what is decent.  I know many who find ear piercing to be equally tacky and tasteless.
