Ha! I just taught this to my class on Friday. When I told them the s goes after brother not law they thought I was lying and the book was wrong. Then I really confused them when I showed the plural possessive form brothersinlaw's!

In one of our grammar units at the high school I taught at there was a section that taught the students that the plural form of manservant is menservants. Because apparently the curriculum developers thought we'd be teaching grammar to Lady Gaga.
