Falling asleep while eating

Mr C. is FF and always falls asleep while eating. We tickle his feet, take the bottle away, etc and it doesn't always work. Sometimes I can get him to eat 6oz other times I spend 30 min trying to get him to take 2 oz. any suggestions on keeping him awake during feedings? He still nurses at night before his last bottle and he falls asleep on the breast as well.

Re: Falling asleep while eating

  • Honestly, I wouldn't force him to stay awake.  One of the potential negatives of formula feeding is you can overfeed the baby much more easily because they eat quicker and you can also essentially force feed them.  It isn't recommended to for

  • I think PP said lots of great things! I EBF but I can tell at some feedings she'll chug down a large amount of milk and others she barely eats anything but she'll still sleep for a few hours like it didn't matter.

  • On the flip side, and just sort of to play devil's advocate, (although--I completely agree with PP!) I think it is important to make sure that not ALL feedings are super short and baby is falling asleep. Otherwise you will create a snacker that feeds ever
