Choroid Plexus Cyst with another small marker

Hi ladies,

I had my 20 week US done last week and just had to go back in to my Dr bc she had some small things to discuss.  One, she found a Choroid Plexus Cyst on his brain which she assured me was completely common. she said if f she had just seen one small marker she probably wouldnt even mention it to me however she also found a small dot in his stomach which is a small calcification. Again she said nothing she would be alarmed about bc she sees calcifications all over fetus' whether in heart or lungs, etc.  But since she saw two small markers she still feels certain that their isnt anything going on genetically but she would like to refer me to have a Level 2 US done just to rule out there's not something genetically going on that she's missing. She looked at all the organs, brain, and spine and looked perfect and his extremities looked great and extended. Im trying to keep positive based on her outlook but I would love to hear from some other women that may have had similar stories with good outcomes. Much appreciation!!

  • I don't have any similar experience. I just wanted to say that I'm hoping for the best for you and your baby boy. Try to stay positive knowing that your OB isn't concerned!

  • DD, who's 2.5 years old now, had a CPC as well as a single umbilical artery, so two soft markers. The dr's weren't worried at all, especially b/c my blood work came back normal and they didn't see any physical deformities on the u/s. I, of course, was worried sick until the moment they placed her perfect little body in my arms. She was born perfectly healthy and is a now a crazy, awesome toddler.

  • My DS had two small markers for downs.  He had a Choroid Plexus Cyst and a short femur.  I was a mess and was sure he would be born with downs.  I read books and prepared for the worst (although I KNEW I would love him no matter what!!!).  He is 4 now and perfectly healthy!!  I know it is hard not to be nervous but try to stay positive.
  • They found a CPC on LO at my 20 week ultrasound too, no other soft markers. By the time I went in for my level 2 ultrasound at 21 weeks it was beginning to resolve. I had to go back a week later because they still needed a couple more views of LO's heart, and the CPC was gone. The MFM specialist who I trust completelyshe just happened to be a close childhood friend who I know is very bright and extremely competent assured me that the link between CPC and the trisomies is weak at best, that CPC's are common, and that most resolve by the third trimester. Also, in the case of Trisomy, there would be more, obvious evidence on the ultrasound than a couple of soft markersit's usually very clear that there are serious problems. That said, if you need 100 reassurance, you can get an amnio if it will make you feel better. But the CPC may likely resolve before you even get the results! Good luck, I know it's scary, and I hope this makes you feel better.

  • I thought I'd reply even though I see you posted a few weeks ago because my DD had the exact same markers.  CPCs and a calcification on her tummy.  I was a mess during the wait to see the specialist.

The specialist however thought the ultrasound tech over-reacted and wasn't the least bit concerned.   He did do a follow up u/s about 4 weeks later for "(my) peace of mind."  He was right, it was nothing.

Hope you have good news too!
