Pooping behavior?

Our Anna has always been a consistent pooper. She gets EBM only, no fortifiers and I am on a low dairy diet due to suspected MSPI. She poops with every feed and she is LOUD. She squirms and grunts and cries for a minimum of 30 minutes each time. It didn't used to be a problem, or at least not the most pressing problem, but now it is because we are working on feeding and I am realizing how much energy she is using trying to poop, and then we are asking her to work for her food!

None of the nurses have mentioned it as a problem, but then they are not in the room for the whole time. She did it during her PT session yesterday though and the PT seemed surprised at how long she was grunting and crying.I mentioned it to the NNP and we got some gas drops, but haven't used them yet.

This may be weird, but what's your preemie's pooping behavior?

  • I had horrible poopers they were EBF with formula mixed in for added calories. The NICU would give the babies shaves (glycerin suppositories) as needed. They came home needing shaves every once in awhile and prune juice every day.

  • My micropreemie had a lot of constipation issues.  We did glycerin chips for a while but he really struggled.  We ended up at the GI doctor, who said glycerin chips are not a good long term solutions, and offered some ideas.  you might try
  • Just curious but are her poops solid or runny? My little one is now 2.5 weeks, she was born 35weeks0days. She poops with each feed and she is so noisy. She doesn't cry but she grunts and squirms for a good bit before loudly pooping (explosive). They a
