FIL's cancer is too big/in a not good spot for him to have surgery at this moment BUT the good news is that it is a single localized tumor. They think that they found it pretty early. Their plan of action is to do a round of low dose chemo for 6 weeks - I think.....can't remember exact time frames and then plan surgery. If they were to do surgery now, he would be guaranteed to have to wear a colostomy bag for the rest of his life and he is obviously not interested in that fun life addition.
He still might have to have a bag during his recovery from surgery, but it would be temporary. There may also be a follow up round of chemo after surgery. Spirits are back up and hopes are high. My DH is still in a rough place right now, but I think he feels a little bit better after hearing the current plan of actions. Thanks for all your T&Ps!!
