I'm sorry to bug you, I know you get a bunch of these questions, but my dog is sick. I was wondering if you could give me your opinion/advice. My dog is about 12 years old we think, but we're not positive because he is a rescue and we got him 5 years ago. He is a diabetic and blind but otherwise healthy enough for his age.
On Thursday he woke up very lethargic and weak, refused to eat (very unlike him), just wanted to lay outside in the dirt. He peed in the house 5 times that day and had increased thirst. I figured his sugars were off. I was able to coax him to eat some dinner, and gave him his insulin that night. Friday morning he woke up pretty much the same. Still wouldn't eat, but also wasn't drinking or urinating inside any more. Still very weak. I took him to the vet and they drew blood and gave him an antibiotic injection thinking he may have a uti. He didn't eat anything at all yesterday and has been basically laying around and sleeping all day. He has still begged for our food (which we don't give him because of diabetes) but won't even look at his own.
His bloodwork was in this morning. He had slightly elevated liver enzymes, elevated WBC count, and very elevated Amylase. His sugars were wnl. They think its Pancreatitis. Though they are surprised he's not having vomiting or diarrhea. I'm to start him on an oral antibiotic today. They said to see how he goes over the weekend and bring him in on Monday if he's not improving. They don't think he needs iv fluids yet because he's not vomiting/diarrhea. If he won't eat or drink by Monday we will need to go that route. They said I can give him tums or Pepcid because he may have a sour stomach. Also I can make him some lean meat like grilled chicken, and some rice to try to entice him to eat. No fats obviously because of the pancreas issues.
Anyhoo, sorry tl;dr but I think that's everything. What do you think? Does that sound about right? Anything else we may want to look into if he doesn't start improving in the next few days? Thanks in advance for any advice
Re: ~~~Packer~~~
He's a mutt. He's definitely got some collie in him, and we suspect some shepherd or husky. He's medium sized, about 50 lbs. I did get a copy of his bloodwork emailed to me. The elevated levels were: AST 111, ALT 153, ALK phosphate 46
