Today's nap fail

So naps in the crib were successful on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and half of Thursday. Yesterday DS napped a total of 45 mins all day. Thankfully he went to bed early at 730, and didn't wake up for the day till 7. By no means was that STTN cuz he woke up twice to eat, but I don't mind that AT ALL. I'd rather him sleep in than STTN. This might bring me to make his bedtime earlier cuz last night was amazing. Has anyone had good experiences with earlier bedtimes and better sleep? He used to keep going strong till 9, then I've been getting him to bed by 8 or 830 for a few months. Since DST, which we don't even have here in AZ, he has been going to bed earlier, last night has been the earliest. Maybe he's commiserating with all of you, which is weird, shouldn't he be going later if he's following DST lol?
Anyway, his morning nap today did not happen. He usually falls asleep around 930. It is now quarter to 11 and he is still going strong. I thought I caught sleepy cues and tried getting him down around 915 but he fought it. Cried and squirmed in my arms, cried and thrashed around in his crib. At one point I just set him down in his crib only to have him pop wide awake again so I let him just lay there and left the room. He cried. Like HARD. I know for certain that I don't want to do CIO because he's just like his mama with the crying. I couldn't last 3 minutes of listening to him. It took me longer to calm down I think. He was hiccuping and sobbing when I picked him up, yes after only 3 minutes, and babbling his ummummumm sounds when he gets super upset. I just can't do it. Naps are my nemesis. I pray for the day when he figures them out without me having to try so dang hard to get him to take one.
He is happily playing right now, so I guess he wasn't really tired when he was showing those signs of being sleepy. If he doesn't nap again today, think positive thoughts for us that he sleeps fine tonight. Maybe my 7 month old is just gonna be a once a day napper. There's really no point to this other than to get all my frustrations out.
