Back story - I bought a van a month ago, when we purchased it one of the sliding doors had a malfunctioning motor, they're electric doors that open by a button, one of them wasn't working, as well as the passenger side electric mirror wasn't working.
Since it was still below the 60,000 mile warranty Kia covered to fix it. Problem is the nearest Kia dealer is like 145 miles away. The dealer we bought it from (Not a Kia dealer) paid for the gas for the trip down to get it fixed... when it got there they didn't have the right parts on hand so they ordered them, and asked us to come back in a week. When MH took the van back down they tried to fix the door but the part they ordered wasn't the right one to fix the problem, AND the mirror they ordered came unpainted. So they ordered the other part for the door and painted the mirror and asked MH to come back down again
Neither dealership was willing to front the gas money or offer a loaner while they kept the vehicle to fix it. Fast forward to this past monday, and the 3rd trip to the dealer, they put the mirror on, just to realize they painted it the wrong color, but they were able to fix the door, asked us to come back the following Monday, when MH pitched a fit about a fourth trip they said they didn't have a loaner to give him that day, but when he came back again they would fill the tank and give him a loaner then.
Fast forward again to yesterday. It was bitterly cold yesterday morning, and after the snow we had, my van iced up. MH went out to scrape the van off for me to go to work, he popped the door open they just fixed, and when he pushed the door button it wouldn't open because it was frozen shut, however it must have popped slightly because the "dinger" went off because it thought the door was open. I drove the .25 mile to work with it dinging, NBD, and didn't think anything of it. When I came out at lunchtime I remembered the door, so I popped it open so I could shut it. When it opened it jammed open, i mean ALL the way open. I had a coworker of mine help me to try to push it closed we couldn't get it to budge. I called the dealer that did the work and they said if we could get the van there they'd fix it. I explained how we couldn't get the door shut in order to drive it, there was no possible way for me to drive it 145 miles on the highway with the door open. They told me to call the Kia Roadside assistance hotline and ask them what to do.
I called, but since my warranty ended at 60,000 miles, even though the work on this door began before the mileage limit, the only thing they could do was charge us to tow it and then the dealership would have to reimburse us. I asked the cost, and was quoted $588.50!!!! I couldn't believe it. When I called the dealership, they became very defensive and said that there was no way to prove that this was the same issue from what they fixed earlier and they may not be responsible for the tow bill. (None of which is helping me to get my door shut)
I ended up spending my entire lunch hour and then some on the phone with the Kia dealership, and the dealership I bought the van from. Eventually the second dealership sent us a loaner car, and opted to fix the door for us even though it wasn't their work that was faulty, and in no way was it their responsibility. (For that I'm very appreciative, they even dropped the loaner off at my work, and drove the van 15 miles to their garage with the door open, in 25 degree weather!)
And to top it all off... they took my '09 Kia minivan, and gave me an '05 PT Cruiser for a loaner... Guess what our other car is?? An '02 PT cruiser. yep. thanks guys.
Phew. What a week... not to mention a bunch of other crap that happened too, but this was just the "best" part. If you got through this you deserve a cookie for sure!
Re: This Week Sucked. (long long whine)
Cars suck.
We have had our share of dealership and car woes over the years. You save so so much money buying used cars but we have decided only to buy certified pre-owned with a bumper to bumper warranty.
I can n
I have sh!t luck regardless.
My first car I bought was a dodge intrepid... the starter went 4 hours after I signed the paperwork - it had no warranty whatsoever, but the dealership came good for it.
My second car was our PT Cruiser..
