Chicken pox?

I just got a call from our in home daycare sitter and she said her kids both have red, itchy bumps (1st grader and 6th grader) and she's not sure whether or not it's chicken pox, so she's taking tomorrow off so she can bring them to the doctor. Are our LO's vaccinated for this already? Or is it one of those multi dose ones? Has anyone's LO had chicken pox?

    If you follow the standard vaccine schedule, our LOs all should have received the first dose of the varicella vaccine.  A second dose is scheduled for when they're between 4-6 years of age.

    Were her kids vaccinated?

    You can still catch chicken pox once vaccinated but it should be much, much less serious.  Hope LO is okay!

    Did she ever get back with you with what the kids have? There are a lot of things that can cause itchy red spots that isn't chicken pox. Did her kids have fevers too?
    Hope it is nothing and you guys are okay and her kids get well soon.

    She brought them to the doctor today, and yes they both have been vaccinated, but yes it's chicken pox! Doctor said the kids are at the end of their contamination period,and can go back to school on Monday, so she'll have daycare open up on Monday. Per

    I just got over the chicken poxs a few weeks ago. I came down with spots a few days before I delivered B and was full blown by the time I was discharged. Neither B or Kellie caught anything!!! I know I was around a ton of people too before I realized what

    Most kids are vaccinated against varicella around a year old. You can always call your pedi and verify LO's vaccination records.
